We have just loved collaborating with Monica on our first signature collection. Monica has a talent with colours that we have rarely seen in textile design, and her superb watercolour prints are just perfect for our mama and baby collection. With her passion for textures, it’s no wonder she has been chosen as one of the top 10 new young design talents in Spain.

Her background

Monica has a Masters Degree of Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca. She has worked a as product designer for national and international museums and as designer for brands such as Urban Outfitters or Zara Home. Her prints have appeared in international publications such as Print&Pattern and magazines such as Harper ‘s Bazaar and Elle. She lives in Madrid with her family.

Monica on her inspiration, and motherhood

How did you become a textile designer?

I studied Fine Arts, but I've always loved fashion. After working for a while as a graphic designer, I found that textile design was the perfect mix between illustration and fashion.

I am interested in many forms of art, from drawing to watercolor painting, collage, product design and photography. Currently I have a brand of accessories, Moniquilla, and I also collaborate with other brands designing prints for very diverse products from bikinis to tea.

Where does your inspiration come from?

I draw my inspiration from nature, flowers, plants, animals, clouds, rain... I also like to play with textures.

Can you tell us a little bit about the three designs that we chose for this signature collection?

These three designs are very personal, They are a great reflection of my work because they all involve some hand drawing with watercolor, showing strokes and their spontaneity.

What decided you to do a collaboration with us?

I really liked the philosophy of the company. I think it is important to create ethical and sustainable products that are respectful of the environment, do not exploit labor, and offer a quality finish. Also,.I have just become a mum for the second time and I would love to carry my daughter in a baby carrier with my print!

You're a mum ! How old are you little ones?

I have 2 children, Gonzalo who is 4 years old and Clara is the baby, who will be 5 months old soon.

What is the top tip you would give to another young mum?

Don’t try to do absolutely everything, don’t try to be perfect, it's impossible! The most important thing is simply to be there for them as much as you can.
